What does Proverbs 16:3 mean? Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.
Such a great promising verse, it reminds me of Proverbs 3:6 In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
COMMIT?
As I considered this verse in my heart, I wondered deeply on the meaning of the word “commit” . What did it mean? How can I commit all my works to the Lord?
I did a deeper dive into the Hebrew word and found that the word “Commit” in Hebrew is word Galal and it means to roll way, to roll up. It’s used 18x in scripture. It’s used in Psalm 37:5 Commit (roll) thy way unto the Lord, trust also in Him and He shall bring it to pass. I smiled as I pondered this new revelation, I suddenly understood what the word “roll” meant, the meaning of committing my works to the Lord.
Rolling our Worries Away
Let me explain. Years ago, when I was younger, my friends and I would often drive down to the Florida Keys for the day or sometimes the weekend. Back then, it felt carefree, so much fun and exciting every single time.
As we entered the Keys, we crossed the long bridges stretching over the beautiful blue waters between the Gulf and the ocean, we had a little tradition for each visit. We would jokingly say:
“It’s time to roll all our worries, problems and stresses and throw them into the sea.”
As we crossed the first long bridge into the keys, T Tops down, wind blowing through the car, blue skies, crystal clear waters, scattered sandbars in view- it was here we would “roll up” all of life’s worries, stresses, fears, and burdens and throw them out the window, tossing them over the bridge as we entered the Keys.
Maybe it sounds silly, but it worked! For each adventure in the Keys, all our troubles felt far away- in fact, they didn’t exist. (and at that time we didn’t have cell phones to remind us)
Looking back now, I realize how amazingly this connects to Proverbs 16:3. I smiled when I realized what this word meant. We can roll up all our issues and give them to Him. I certainly haven’t mastered that yet, but what a comforting thought it is. It’s about fully giving God all in our life and trusting in Him. God wants us to roll our cares, burdens, plans, dreams (He has put in your heart) , pursuits, fears and worries – everything- onto Him instead of carrying them alone. Roll them all to Him- Commit all your works to Him and He Promises :
that our plans, our purpose, our thoughts, our invenitons, will be made firm, established, directed, prepared, accomplished and made ready.
A power packed verse!
HIS PROMISES TO YOU – when you roll like that:
Roll it all up and give it to God. Trust Him in all you do and He will secure, direct and prepare all your plans and directions. The verse says all your words, labor, pursuits, undertakings, products rolled to the Lord and all your plans, purpose, thoughts, and ways will be made firm, established, directed and accomplished.
Yes He can! Be encouraged!
Commit all you do- all your deeds , all your business, everything you do to Him roll them up and give them to God- I thought “God, that ‘s a lot for everyone to give you” – But I remembered and was encouraged that “Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened that it cannot save, neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear” AND His Spirit lives in me- and in all the household of God. Nothing is impossible with God , yes, Great is our Lord and His abundant in power, His understanding is beyond measure! (Ps147:5) He can do far more abundantly than all we can ask or think, according to the Power at work within us (Eph3:20) and Behold, He is the Lord, the God of all flesh, Is anything too hard for Him (Jer 32:27)
I am encouraged again and increasing in faith as I read these verses reassuring me- that certainly this is what God wants from us.
This doesn’t mean I can be a dodo, and a lazy person, no! It means I can move forward in both strength and faith in my God and Savior to lead me in the right direction, to help me accomplish the work He has set out for me to do. This is where your spirit , your inner man will find pure joy. There will be ups an down along the way – but they are temporary and we can commit/roll them all to our God, Our Father, Our Creator, Our Saviour, the One who loves us.
I’m reminded once again of vereses in the Bible – the parable of the Talents – to each of you, God has given a gift. I’m sure of this, don’t be fearful in pursuing ahead, trust in the Lord and move forward fearlessly. Don’t be like the lazy man who hid his talents. Matthew 25:14-30

Photo of old bridge- was on that as a kid- we had to roll our windows down as we crossed, Dad said it was easiest way to swim out if we went into water. Agh!
He will teach and guide you: I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go, I will guide thee with mine eye Psalm 32:8
He teaches us the Way, guiding us :Good and upright is the Lord therefore will he teach sinners in the way. The meek he will guide and judgment, and the meek he will teach his way psalms 25: 8-9

He will lead you in the way to go :thus says the Lord the Redeemer the holy one of Israel, I am the Lord thy God which teaches you to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that you should go. Isaiah 48: 17
Do not follow your own heart, understanding, imaginations : OH Lord I know that the way of man is not in himself, not in man that walketh to direct his steps. Jeremiah 10: 23 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, and all your ways submit to him and he will make your path straight proverbs 3: 5-6
Ask God for help : if any of you lack wisdom, Let him ask God that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not and it shall be given to him. James 1: 5
Give Give give , Give it all to God.
It is the Lord God who gives you the strength for each day.

My favorite spot in the Keys.
